Thrive and Awaken® Tip
When we hear the word emptiness, the mind often imagines something lacking or a void. The emptiness spoken of in many contemplative traditions is not a barren space but an open field in which everything arises.
When the mind quiets and we are no longer filling every moment with thoughts, plans, worries, and reactions, we begin to sense this openness. At first it may feel unfamiliar, even uncomfortable, because the ego is used to defining itself through activity and identity. But if we allow ourselves to rest there, something remarkable happens.
Within that emptiness we begin to notice the richness of experience unfolding naturally. Thoughts appear and dissolve. Emotions move through like weather. Sensations arise in the body. Life continues expressing itself in countless forms. The emptiness is not the absence of life. It is the spacious ground that allows everything to exist.
In this way, emptiness becomes the foundation of everythingness. When we are willing to rest in the emptiness, the fullness of life reveals itself more clearly.
Reflection
Take a few quiet moments today and allow the mind to settle. Notice the space between thoughts, the simple presence that remains when nothing needs to be added or solved. Rather than trying to fill that space, see what happens if you simply rest in it. What you call emptiness may reveal itself as a deeper fullness of being.
